Cyclocross Bikes

Cyclocross bikes are ones designed and built specifically for dedicated enthusiasts of the popular sport of cyclocross racing. Modern cyclocross bikes are no longer slightly modified versions of their road bike cousins, with many bicycle manufacturers dedicating an entire range to these bikes.

Cyclocross Bikes

A cyclocross bike is a bike designed specifically for the popular cyclocross sport, drop handlebar bikes used to race across muddy fields. Modern cyclocross bikes are no longer lightweight road bikes, although at first glance you can see the resemblance. Cyclocross bike frames use different geometry to ensure the rider’s position is fully optimised for this dirty and technical sport.

The bike frame generally has a shorter reach, taller bottom bracket and a much taller position than a standard road bike. They also favour wider tyres, with thicker material and a knobbly exterior.

Knobbly tyres aren’t the only comparison to mountain bikes, disc brakes and tubeless tyres are now found on cyclocross bikes too.

These bikes are not just used by muddy field fans but are increasingly being used as winter bikes due to their robust nature.

Although cyclocross bikes share many features with gravel bikes, they should not be confused with these or other off-road bikes.
